Swantiki is a raft activity for Scouts. Each raft is manned by a patrol of Scouts. Scouts must make their own raft on site using pioneering materials and methods. Pre-made or pre-fabricated rafts are not permitted. Scouts must also make their own “Scout -made” paddles (these can be made prior to the event).
Date: Sunday 30 March 2025
Location: Bayswater Sea Scout Hall, Milne Street, Bayswater.
Cost: $16 per Scout. Payment to be made with registration via ScoutMap
Registration fee includes the Swantiki badge, lunch and a drink.
Time: Raft construction commences at 0730; on-water activities start at 1100; Final Parade 1500.
Theme: Pirates at War
PFDs must be worn at all times on the water. PFDs must be a PFD 50 (old “Type 2”) minimum standard (i.e. PFD 100 or old Type 1 are OK too).
Enclosed shoes (old sneakers, aquasox, wetsuit booties etc) must be worn on/in the water and on the land. This is part of our site specific risk assessment.
“Scout made” paddles should have no metal projections - i.e. screws, long bolt threads past the nut should be cut off and filed smooth.
Leaders should ensure that their Scouts can swim 50 metres dressed in shirt, shorts, shoes and a properly fitting personal flotation device, and thereafter remain afloat, and are able to stay afloat for 3 minutes without the aid of a personal flotation device. Refer to current Y3 form for this requirement.
Rafts will need a 300mm x 300mm waterproof “sign” on which to clearly write their raft number, to assist with scoring and identification by the safety and support crews. This is to be attached securely and prominently to the raft.
To assist us in planning a fun and activity we cannot accept late registrations. We have made the closing date as close to event as we can.
Patrols of Scouts (one patrol of 4 to 8 Scouts per raft) can register as "teams" in ScoutMap. We suggest the Unit Council form the teams prior to youth registering so that they know which "team" (aka raft) to join.
Groups with less than 4 Scouts who wish to participate should try and join with nearby Group. If this is not possible, please let us know and we will try and work something out with you and another Group to create an activity patrol.
Leaders attending must also register on ScoutMap.
Volunteer Venturers, Rovers, and other Adults, who are helping run activity bases or manning support boats,
please register so we can feed you! - Register via ScoutMap too
There is no cost for event volunteers.
